Meet Nethra – Karnatka, India
My name is Nethra, and I come from a small village in Karnataka, India. I was born on March 29, 1997, with a rare skin condition called lamellar ichthyosis.
My parents didn’t know anything about this condition, but they gave me something even more important, love, care, and strength.
I come from a lower-middle-class farming family, where life was never easy. I studied in my village until 7th standard, and for high school, I had to move to a nearby city. There was no transport, so I stayed in a government hostel. That phase of my life was very challenging. I faced discrimination. I felt different. I struggled to be accepted. But those struggles did not break me. they built me.
After school, I faced another setback. Many colleges rejected me. At one point, it felt like the world was closing its doors on me. But I decided something very important, I will not let rejection decide my future. I kept going.
With determination and belief in myself, I completed my Computer Science Engineering. And today, I am working at Amazon.
My journey was not easy. But it taught me one powerful lesson: Your challenges do not define you. Your courage does. Today, I stand here proud of who I am. I have learned to accept myself, to challenge myself, and to never give up—no matter how hard life gets. So to everyone listening to me today: If life is hard, keep going. If people doubt you, believe in yourself. If doors close, create your own path. Because one day, your story will inspire someone else to never give up. Thank you.
