Promising Progress for Peeling Skin Syndrome

There is encouraging news for individuals and families affected by Peeling Skin Syndrome (PSS), a rare genetic skin disorder that causes the outer layers of the skin to peel, often leading to pain, itching, and significant daily challenges.

Quoin Pharmaceuticals recently submitted the first-ever application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin formal clinical testing of QRX003, an investigational topical treatment designed specifically for PSS. If approved to move forward, this would mark an important step toward developing the first targeted therapy for this condition.

The application is supported by early results from an ongoing pediatric study. One child treated with QRX003 experienced significant improvements in skin healing, sleep, and overall quality of life, with no reported safety concerns after more than 15 months of treatment.

Currently, there are no FDA-approved treatments or cures for Peeling Skin Syndrome, and care is focused primarily on managing symptoms. Quoin hopes to begin a Phase 2 clinical trial later in 2026, pending FDA review. While more research is needed, this milestone represents an exciting step forward for the PSS community and highlights the growing focus on developing treatments for rare skin disorders.
