At the 2026 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting (AAD) in Denver, Chris Boynton and Denise Gass represented the Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types (FIRST) with energy, purpose, and a clear focus on advancing awareness and collaboration within the dermatology community.
A major highlight of the meeting was ichthyosis being featured on the official AAD podcast—an exciting milestone that helped elevate visibility for the condition among dermatology professionals worldwide. Equally impactful was the 3rd ichthyosis-focused session, which expanded this year to a full two hours. The extended format created space for deeper dialogue, meaningful collaboration, and the opportunity to bring together a remarkable group of global researchers. The session sparked new connections, inspired important discussions, and welcomed several new physicians into FIRST’s growing Physician Network—an encouraging sign of continued momentum in ichthyosis research and care.
Chris and Denise also spent time in the bustling exhibitor hall, where they explored the latest innovations in dermatologic care. A noticeable trend across many booths was a strong emphasis on the skin barrier, with numerous brands showcasing products and research aligned with barrier repair and support—an area of particular relevance for the ichthyosis community. These conversations opened the door to potential partnerships and conference sample opportunities that could directly benefit individuals and families living with ichthyosis.
Overall, AAD 2026 proved to be a powerful platform for connection, education, and progress. From increased awareness through media features to strengthening relationships with clinicians, researchers, and industry partners, the experience reinforced FIRST’s mission and the growing commitment across the dermatology field to better understand and support those affected by ichthyosis.
In addition, Chris Boynton was proud to stand alongside The Coalition of Skin Disease (CSD) partners who share a commitment to strengthening advocacy, raising awareness, and advancing research across the skin disease community. The energy and collaboration in the room were truly powerful. We’re grateful for these meaningful partnerships and look forward to continuing this important work together.
