FIRST Welcomes Our Communications Director!

Date: 04/03/2013

Greetings to the FIRST Community!

I am delighted to be joining the team this week in my new role as Communications Director.  Recently, I had the pleasure to meet the FIRST staff here in Colmar, and several of the Marketing/Technology Committee members from around the country. However, for those of you I have not yet met, I wanted to introduce myself and offer a few words about the journey that brought me to FIRST, and to this exciting opportunity.

During my nearly fifteen-year career in marketing communications, I have held the positions of creative writer, marketing strategist, and account manager, in both a corporate and agency setting. In doing so, I have developed a unique blend of communications expertise.  In my role as Senior Copywriter for both the Healthcare and Retail sectors, I was afforded the opportunity to reach new audiences with fresh and engaging communications–ultimately, reviving the “voices” of several long-standing brands.  In my most recent role as Account Manager and Video Producer for one of the region’s top performing digital advertising agencies, I worked alongside a variety of Higher Education clients, ensuring that their messaging was not only compelling, but also cast in the widest and most integrated net of both traditional and social media. It has been an exciting and rewarding career – one that allowed me to embrace my passions and assist in the growth of multiple organizations and businesses.

On a personal note, I am a restless advocate for the local arts and culture community and I volunteer my time and expertise in any manner I can. The essence of the artist, after all, points to what lies within each of us, the spirit of courage.  I believe art inspires us to be our best and most authentic selves and, in all of its forms, it is a vital part of the way we live; work and communicate.

So why did I feel compelled to seek employment at FIRST?   Certainly, for a variety of important reasons-the opportunity to take part in the advancement towards a cure for this rare skin disorder ranking first among them.  However, there is one reason that also stands out.  Although  I have just recently met this incredible group of individuals,  one thing is quite apparent; they are on a mission that is fueled by the absolute best of intentions; to open their lives, minds, and hearts and help those in need.   Their dedication obviously supersedes the ticking of the clock, and their energy is best described as an “object in motion,” with no signs of slowing down.   I, for one, feel privileged to be a part of their journey and I am hereby committed to drawing upon my skills, creativity, and all of the challenges and triumphs of my career, and infuse it in that very same way - with hope, passion, and purpose.

I look forward to a bright and successful future of Educating, Inspiring, and Connecting as many families, individuals and organizations as possible.

Have a wonderful week!
